THE COMPANY
We come from the operator's side of the table.
We spent more than twenty years building companies inside complex regulated systems, deploying capital, hiring experts and absorbing the cost of learning what operators need. We had the attorneys, consultants, grant writers and public-affairs people. They were excellent. We still learned what would kill a deal after we spent the money and filed the applications because each expert owned a different part of the project and one platform with the single source of truth was nowhere to be found.
The first version of Skumu was a tracker we built for a $4 million California Energy Commission project — a massive amount of work, a long list of partners and regulatory and compliance obligations hiding behind every line item. We needed to know, before we committed another dollar, whether the project was ready and whether it could win. It didn’t exist, so we built it ourselves.
That's still the job. Regulatory and compliance work is the least glamorous part of public capital and the part that decides all of the money. We built Skumu to do it at scale: an AI platform that gives every firm around a regulated deal what it needs for its own work. Today we work across operations, go-to-market, public policy, product, legal and engineering in Los Angeles.
